That one week before the New Year filled with the same old shit, just in sweatpants instead of blue jeans. No alarms, no work, no rush… but somehow still just as tired.
So yeah, enjoy the time with the family. Enjoy the holidays. Get ready for a new year. But first, let’s stress about Christmas and make sure it’s better than last year. Bigger. Better. More lights. More gifts. More boxes showing up at the door every day. All while spending time with family members we’d normally volunteer for overtime just to avoid their events and pretending we’re sorry about it.
We do our best to make sure the kids have the greatest Christmas ever, but let’s be honest, thank God for our wives because they’re the real MVPs in that department. They plan it, shop it, wrap it, make it magical. We show up, eat a great meal, the best damn home cooking, and call it a win. Thanks, babe!
You sleep in a whole three hours later than normal and feel like a new man. You tell yourself you’re gonna get stuff done around the house. You don’t. You hang out with the wife and kids, which is actually the best part, and still manage to fall asleep in the Lazy Boy at the exact same time every night while fighting it like it’s a competition.
Next thing you know, it’s New Year’s Eve.
That’s when the plans start. Big plans. Lists get made. January’s gonna be the month. February too, probably. Then March hits, work ramps up, other BS gets in the way, and suddenly only a quarter of that list got done, and the list somehow got longer for next year.
Maybe that’s why you always hear guys talking about all the stuff they’re gonna do when they retire. Because apparently that’s the only time anything actually gets finished.
Oh well.
Relax. Enjoy the next few days. Spend time with the wife and kids. Get the important stuff done. The rest can wait. Before you know it, you’ll be counting down to summer vacation; warm weather, cold drinks, maybe sand between your toes, and doing this whole thing all over again.
Same grind. Same crew. Same story.
Happy Holidays from Blue Collar Bros.
